The Greatest Generation is also our most rapidly disappearing generation. Some estimate that we lose around 400 World War II veterans every day. Rishi Sharma has made it his dream to interview every living veteran while he still can.

To date, Sharma has interviewed hundreds of combat veterans, supported by donations from everyday Americans on his GoFundMe page.

How did he get started?

At around 13 or 14, Rishi Sharma found his passion by calling the World War II veterans whose memoirs he was reading. He realized that many of these veterans are still with us and able to share their stories.

“I could actually talk to this real person that I’m reading about,” he described his light bulb moment.

What does he say to these veterans? “It means a great deal to me that you were willing to endure all of that so that I can be here today.”

Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction – but young men like Rishi Sharma should give us hope.
