You may remember actor Geoffrey Owens from his role on The Cosby Show as the Huxtables’ son-in-law, Elvin. This week, he made headlines when a tabloid posted photos of him working at his part-time job as a cashier at Trader Joe’s, bemoaning how far he’d fallen.
Someone should tell the tabloids this: There’s nothing wrong with working as a grocery clerk.
After the incident, Owens told Good Morning America that he hoped this provided a moment to consider “the honor of the working person and the dignity of work….There is no job that is better than another job. It might pay better, it might have better benefits, it might look better on a resume and on paper, but actually it’s not better. Every job is worthwhile and valuable.”
He wasn’t the only one outraged by this “job-shaming.” Some of the reactions from others on Twitter, below:
I swept floors AFTER the @NFL. If need be, I’d do it again. Good honest work is nothing to be ashamed of. https://t.co/8mseCpaIqz

I worked in a Wetherspoons kitchen after being in Harry Potter. I needed a job, no shame in that. And you know what? I really enjoyed it! You do what you need to do and that’s nothing to be ashamed of. https://t.co/1RI8sltHMe
