What happens when artificially intelligent machines start thinking for themselves? These machines will make mistakes in ways we can’t yet imagine – and we’ll need a strong sense of our own values to evaluate the answers machines give us.

In her TED talk, socio-technologist Zeynep Tufekci gives several examples of the moral quandaries we face in artificial intelligence. She cautions us against believing that we can “let the machines solve our problems.” Her warning to us:

We cannot outsource our responsibilities to machines. We must hold on ever tighter to human values and human ethics.
